Terms and Nomenclature
Dorsal Body Cavity: Body Cavity that contains the Cranial and Vertebral Cavities.
(aka the spinal cord/brain)
Cranial Cavity: Cavity that contains the brain.
Vertebral Cavity: Cavity that contains the spinal cord.
Thoracic Cavity: Cavity that contains the heart, lungs, superior mediastinum, pleural cavity, pericardial cavity within the mediastinum.
Abdominal Cavity: Cavity that contains digestive viscera.
Pelvic Cavity: Cavity that contains the urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and rectum.
Abdominopelvic Cavity: Cavity that contains the Abdominal and Pelvic Cavities.
Ventral Body Cavity: Body Cavity that contains the thoracic and abdomininopelvic cavities.
Diaphragm: Separates the Thoracic cavity from the Abdominal Cavity.
